Epilepsy Awareness Month Day 6: Advocacy and Fun

We have been in Disneyland the last couple of days for the 2nd Annual Epilepsy Awareness Day in Disneyland and Epilepsy Expo.  We have met some wonderful people, are having tons of fun and eating way more than we should.  It’s okay – most of it is chocolate so we get a pass for that, right?

The Epilepsy Awareness Squad - teen advocates for
epilepsy awareness. Love these guys!
What amazes me about people involved with epilepsy awareness is their passion for advocacy.

People who have lost their own child to epilepsy are advocating for awareness, tolerance, research and, yes, a cure.

Teens affected by epilepsy have not been deterred from becoming advocates and spreading awareness (like those from the Epilepsy Awareness Squad.)

Parents who care for their adult children with uncontrolled epilepsy are passionate about finding a cure so the harmful pharmaceuticals can be reduced or eliminated.

It has been a powerful few days.

Robert is also an advocate for educating about epilepsy and has been since he was a teen. He talked to fellow students when he was in high school and he also had a near death experience in which he was told that God wasn’t done with him yet.

Advocacy and fun in Disneyland!
Robert is an advocate for awareness and education but he also loves to have some fun! And boy has there been a lot of fun to be had at Disneyland and California Adventure these last few days! Robert is being a wonderful advocate while also having a blast.

The video today is Robert’s story of nearly drowning.  He actually was in a coma for three days after this incident and our family didn’t think he would make it.

I am grateful for my dad saving Robert and for Robert being inspired to be an advocate.   I am also grateful for the amazing time we are having in Disneyland!

That is saying a lot, Leslie, as I think you are a wonderful advocate yourself! I am so happy to have you as part of our lives! <3
