Epilepsy Awareness Month Day 5: Talking About Medications

It amazes me how much medication Robert is on for his epilepsy and other disorders, yet he still is in the thirty percent of those with epilepsy without good seizure control.

I cannot even imagine what his life would be like if he was not taking any of this medication. He takes 35 pills spread out over seven dispense times in one day.

That is a lot of medication.

Although the medication may not give him total seizure control, we know that it does help significantly and I am convinced he would have non-stop seizures without it. 

In this video, Robert and I go through each of his medications and what they help with.  Every person with epilepsy is different and what works for one person, may not work for another. It is a trial and error of finding the balance between seizure control while maintaining a great quality of life. 

I think as far as Robert is concerned, he has a pretty good life even though he still has seizures and still experiences side-effects (such as some drowsiness) from the medications.

What am I saying? I am convinced Robert thinks he has an “excellent” life in spite of the meds and seizures.
